Pet In-House Diagnostics
When you need answers about your pet’s health, Brewer Veterinary Clinic uses our comprehensive in-house veterinary diagnostics to deliver fast, accurate results—so we can make informed decisions for your pet’s care without unnecessary delays.
What Are In-House Veterinary Diagnostics?
When your pet isn’t feeling well—or even when we need more information about their health during a routine wellness visit—diagnostic testing plays a critical role in understanding what’s happening inside their body. In-house veterinary diagnostics refer to laboratory and testing services performed directly at our clinic, rather than being sent to an outside laboratory.
At Brewer Veterinary Clinic, having diagnostic capabilities on-site means we can analyze results quickly, discuss findings with you during or shortly after your visit, and begin treatment sooner when time matters. It also means fewer trips and less waiting for you and your pet.
What Our In-House Diagnostics Include
- Complete blood count (CBC) to evaluate red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets—helping identify infection, anemia, inflammation, and immune system concerns
- Blood chemistry panels to assess organ function, including the liver, kidneys, and pancreas, as well as blood sugar and electrolyte levels
- Thyroid testing to screen for hypothyroidism in dogs and hyperthyroidism in cats, both of which are common in middle-aged and senior pets
- Urinalysis to evaluate kidney function, detect infection, and screen for diabetes or other metabolic conditions
- Fecal testing to identify intestinal parasites, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, Giardia, and coccidia
- Heartworm and tick-borne disease testing using rapid in-house panels
- Cytology to examine skin, ear, or tissue samples for infection, inflammation, or abnormal cell types
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork to ensure your pet is a safe candidate for sedation or anesthesia prior to surgery
Our team will explain which tests are recommended for your pet and why, so you always understand the purpose and value of each diagnostic step. Depending on your pet’s health needs, we may also recommend imaging services such as X-rays and ultrasound for a clearer diagnosis.
Why In-House Diagnostics Matter
Many conditions develop silently and are only detectable through bloodwork or urinalysis. As a result, routine diagnostics are also a key aspect of our internal medicine services and proactive senior pet care, as many older pets may not show obvious symptoms of age-related conditions.
